Building and roofing work carries the highest risk profile in the domestic trades, and falls from height remain the largest single cause of workplace fatalities in Great Britain. The documents in this category exist mainly to make sure the thinking happens before the ladder goes up, not after.
Start with CDM. The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 apply to all construction work, including domestic jobs — on domestic projects the client duties normally pass to the contractor, or to the principal contractor where more than one contractor is involved. If more than one contractor will be on site, you need a written construction phase plan before work starts, and it must be proportionate: for a two-week roof replacement that is a few pages, not a ring binder. The template here is scaled for exactly that kind of job.
The working at height documents follow the Work at Height Regulations 2005 hierarchy: avoid working at height where you can, prevent falls where you cannot, and mitigate the distance and consequences where a risk remains. The checks cover access selection, edge protection, fragile surfaces — a recurring killer on older roofs and rooflights — weather limits and exclusion zones below.
Scaffold inspection records are a specific legal requirement. A scaffold must be inspected by a competent person before first use, at intervals not exceeding seven days, and after any event likely to have affected its stability such as high winds or an alteration. The record must be kept on site. The template gives you a compliant format that fits in a site file.
The remainder cover stage sign-offs, variation records for the extras that always appear once you open up a structure, and a site hand-over sheet. All editable .docx, all written for UK regulation and terminology.
