Recording it well
Read the script out loud a couple of times before you record it properly — it should sound like you talking, not you reading. Find somewhere quiet, away from the van radio or a running tap, and speak a little slower than feels natural; voicemail systems compress audio and mumbled words get lost first. If your phone lets you re-record, do a second take even if the first one seemed fine — you'll usually sound more relaxed on the second go.
